Samuel "Sam" Armstrong Harding-Hughes-Coolidge World Court Plan Editorial Comics Panel Original Art (Tacoma, Wash., News-Tribune, c. 1920s). The "Plan" mentioned in this original Takoma, Washington newspaper editorial cartoon over 100 years ago by future Disney artist Sam Armstrong (1893 - 1977) concerned the participation of the US in the Permanent Court of International Justice, aka the World Court. It was favored by Secretary of State Charles Evans Hughes and two Republican presidents - Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge but faced stiff opposition from the Senate's isolationists. In the illustration, the senator's hack out a substitute plan that changes everything for the worse! The art is in ink on a sheet of Bristol board measuring approximately 22.75" x 28.5"; the main image area is 21" x 26". The signed art is in Good to Very Good condition with some handling and edge wear with a small piece out of the lower left corner and mild age-related board toning.
