Description
TRON Collection of Slides and Negatives of Early Test Shots Group of 144 (Walt Disney, 1982). "Everybody was doing backlit animation in the '70s, you know. It was that disco look. And we thought, what if we had this character that was a neon line, and that was our Tron warrior - Tron for electronic. And then what happened was, I saw Pong..." TRON's writer and director Steven Lisberger recalled. Here's a group 127 color slides and 15 color negatives of early test shots from the development of TRON. The film was initially conceived as an animated film bracketed with live-action sequences. Considered groundbreaking, TRON has inspired other film makers in numerous ways. John Lasseter, head of Pixar and Disney's animation group, described how the film helped him see the potential of computer-generated imagery in the production of animated films, stating "without TRON, there would be no Toy Story." These color slides and negatives come to auction from the family archives of Harrison Ellenshaw. The son of Disney Legend Peter Ellenshaw and sister to visual FX producer Lynda Ellenshaw-Thompson, Harrison began his career as a matte painter with Walt Disney Studios. He went on to join Industrial Light and Magic to create and produce matte paintings and visual FX for Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980). He would eventually return to Disney as a miniature FX creator on The Black Hole (1979) for which he would receive an Academy Award® nomination and would go on to serve as associate producer and visual effects supervisor on TRON, ultimately becoming head of Disney's FX unit, Buena Vista Visual Effects. This incredibly rare group of 144 pieces is in Very Good condition. From the Harrison Ellenshaw Tron Collection.
