Good Little, Bad Little Girl Little Golden Book #562 Front Cover Color Illustration by Eloise Wilkin (Golden Press, 1965). The little girl pictured on this original painted storybook cover looks way too sweet to ever be "bad!" The reality is we're looking at two little girls here - the "good" one wears a pink sash while the "bad" little girl wears blue in this lovely illustration by Eloise Burns Wilkin (1904 - 1987). Eloise had an exclusive contract with Little Golden Press beginning in 1944, requiring her to illustrate three books a year, many of which have become classics. She was affectionately known as "the soul of Little Golden Books" and books she illustrated, many of which were written by her sister Esther Burns Wilkin like Good Little, Bad Little Girl, have gone on to be reprinted many times. This cover illustration is a hand-colored light gray print of line art, printed on illustration board and painted edge-to-edge with watercolor. This is the published artwork that originally included a black line acetate overlay, but the image is still gorgeous without it. The board size measures approximately 7.75" x 9.5" and includes a preliminary hand-painted title overlay. A color photocopy of the book's cover is included for comparison purposes. The art is in Good to Very Good condition with some handling and edge wear and a few small stains on both the artboard and the overlay.More information about Children's Book Illustrator.
