Description

Donald Duck in Disneyland Mickey Mouse Club Book #D24 Illustrations by Campbell Grant Original Art plus Published Book Group of 5 (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1955). Donald's nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie enjoy the fabulous rides in this children's storybook tied to the Summer, 1955 opening of Disneyland. This group includes four double-page illustrations from this Mickey Mouse Club book (a precursor to Disney's Little Golden Book titles); three of the illustrations feature the nephews, while one shows a tiny image of Donald himself. The artist is Campbell Grant (1909 - 1992), an animator/illustrator who joined Disney in 1934; he worked on such classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, and the "Wind in the Willows" segment in The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. After Grant left Disney Studios, he became a full-time illustrator for the Little Golden Books line, focusing primarily on Disney properties. This group includes the original artwork for pages 16-17 (Donald waves and watches as the stagecoach ride with the boys is "attacked" - it's in the first printing; however, these pages do not appear in the second-printing copy of the book included with the art); pages 18-19 (appear in the book as 14-15 and shows the Casey Jr. train ride with Dewey riding in the train's engine); 20-21 (Huey, Dewey, and Louie ride a Tomorrowland Boat by Big Thunder Falls; does not appear in the copy we have but can be found on pages 20-21 in the 1960 edition); and 24-25 (Huey drives a Midget Autotopia car - appears in our copy at pages 20-21). Wow! The artboard images each measure approximately 12.5" wide (one is 13" wide); the image heights range from 6" to 8.5". The Bristol board s range from 13.5" x 9.5" to 14,5" x 11.5". The art condition is Very Good with minor handling and edge wear.
