Description

Beauty and the Beast Belle's Home Early Concept Art by Disney Legend Mel Shaw (Walt Disney, 1991). Disney Legend Mel Shaw (1914 - 2012) was an incredible animator and story artist at Disney. He began his career in 1937 and soon began working on Bambi, Fantasia, and "The Wind in the Willows" segment of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. After returning from army service in World War II, he started a business with Bob Allen, and later returned to Disney in 1974 to work on Bronze Age and Renaissance films like The Rescuers and Beauty and the Beast. In this early graphite concept art, he imagined what Belle and her father's home might look like. Their house is a cozy place, though it is often the talk of town gossip when Maurice is working on his new inventions. This version is a little more traditional and without the added architecture and inventions from Maurice on the outside, but does still tie in those aspects as Maurice tosses a few pieces of a failed invention out of the window. The little house in the idyllic French countryside is about 11'' x 7.5'' on the 11.5'' x 8.5'' page and is an amazing example of just how much Mel Shaw could convey in one concept. Very Good condition with light handling wear!
From the Disney Legend Inductee Andreas Deja Collection.
