Description

Who Framed Roger Rabbit Early Development Roger Rabbit Color Model/Test Cel (Walt Disney/Amblin, 1988). This rare early development test cel features the title character from Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking blend of live action, traditional animation, and film-noir style. Set in 1947 Hollywood, the film follows private investigator Eddie Valiant as he is pulled into a studio backlot mystery when A-list Toon Roger Rabbit is framed for murder. Created during pre-production, this hand-painted 16-field acetate presents a 5" image of Roger in an exploratory design: buck-toothed with exaggerated, over-sized feet, capturing the character at a formative stage before his familiar on-screen model was finalized. Serving as a color model (or color test), the cel would have guided animators and Ink & Paint in establishing and maintaining accurate hues across scenes and lighting conditions. Such reference pieces were essential to continuity, particularly on a film that pioneered seamless interaction between animated characters and live performers. Unbelievably scarce and highly coveted, this test cel embodies the technological and artistic experimentation that defined the production. A standout artifact from a landmark in cinematic innovation. Condition is Very Good with light handling and edge wear and the cel adhered to the paper beneath it.
