Description
Xena: Warrior Princess Screen-Used Original Matte Painting by Harrison Ellenshaw (NBC Universal, 2001). A compelling screen-used production matte painting from the television series Xena: Warrior Princess, created by acclaimed visual effects supervisor Harrison Ellenshaw. Expertly rendered in gouache on 31" x 47" board, the piece demonstrates Ellenshaw's celebrated mastery of light, color, and cinematic scale. Designed to expand sets and create sweeping mythological landscapes, the painting embodies the seamless artistry that defined Xena's world-building. Ellenshaw began his career at Walt Disney Studios before joining George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic, where he contributed matte paintings and visual effects to Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980). He later supervised visual effects for Xena from 1999-2000, lending his expertise to some of the show's most ambitious environments. Matte paintings are hand-painted landscapes or sets combined with live action to create believable, expansive worlds otherwise impossible or costly to film. Screen-used examples are increasingly scarce, especially from major productions. This painting represents a unique opportunity to own a tangible artifact of practical visual effects artistry.
