Description

Coney Island Revitalization Project - Original LARGE 34" x 28" Concept Art Featuring the Boardwalk by Landmark Entertainment Group (LEG, c. 1980s). This original concept art was created by Landmark Entertainment Group for the proposed Coney Island revitalization project of the 1980s. Rendered in gouache on a massive 34" x 28" board, the artwork captures a sweeping view of the famed Boardwalk, with shops lining the promenade and the iconic Parachute Jump rising prominently into the skyline. Landmark's artists infused the piece with the bold, cinematic style for which the firm was known, using rich color and dramatic perspective to convey the energy of a reimagined Coney Island. The Parachute Jump, originally built for the 1939 New York World's Fair and moved to Coney Island's Steeplechase Park in 1941, thrilled riders until its closure in 1968. The 262-foot-tall steel tower remains a beloved symbol of Brooklyn, often nicknamed the "Eiffel Tower of Brooklyn," and today stands as a designated New York City landmark. Landmark's proposed redevelopment reflected the firm's broader portfolio of "urban entertainment" projects, combining theme-park-style attractions with retail and dining to reinvigorate historic spaces. Though never realized, this artwork offers a vivid glimpse into that vision. In Very Good condition, it makes a striking display piece and a rare artifact of themed design history.
