Description

Gaar Williams How To Keep from Growing Old Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 4 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1929). Williams' definition of How To Keep from Growing Old often referred to wearing oneself out in feeble attempts to keep up with the momentum of reckless youth. That dire subtext figures especially in one jewel of the present array -- a Christmas-season complaint against incessant nightclubbing (12-29-29). The master of panel-gag timing also takes a stand against road-hogging (4-1-29); pits a harried householder against a tough janitor (6-1-29); and issues a dire warning against allowing teenage knuckleheads to drive automobiles (1-7-29). Splendid examples, here, of Williams' impeccable brushwork and snide wit. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" square. Ink with some blue watercolor shading over graphite on Bristol board with a 13" x 13" image area. Toning and handling wear commensurate with age. Condition: Very Good.
From the Ray Edw Collection.
