Description

Tom Wood Good Housekeeping "The Big Bad Wolf" The Big Bad Wolf, Fifer, Fiddler, and Little Red Riding Hood Preliminary Publicity Drawing (Walt Disney, 1934). This detailed preliminary drawing was masterfully crafted for a publicity layout in Disney's publicity art department to promote the studio's first sequel to its hugely successful Silly Symphony cartoon The Three Little Pigs (1933). By the hand of Tom Wood (1887 - 1940), the final piece crafted by this preliminary drawing can be seen on page 37 of Volume 98, Number 5: Good Housekeeping. Little Red Riding Hood joins Fifer and Fiddler on a tuneful stroll through the woods to Grandmother's house as the Big Bad Wolf lurks in the background. Rendered in graphite this whimsical composition is blocked out to a size measuring about 8.5" x 7.5" on a 9.5" x 12" unpunched sheet of animation paper. The piece has mild age-toning, mild production handling and edgewear, including three pinholes along the top and right edges, a crease that crosses the top of the composition, slightly torn corners, and minor surface debris. In Good to Very Good condition.
