101 Dalmatians Sergeant Tibs and 15 Puppies Production Cel Setup with Master Background and Walt Disney Signature by Bob Moore (Walt Disney, 1961). "There's a hole in the wall there by the door. Psst! Kids, follow me. Come on, don't crowd. One at a time. One at a time! Straighten out! Form a queue, along the wall. Snap it up, faster!" Dutiful Sergeant Tibs serves as crowd control while helping the puppies escape the derelict Hell Hall mansion in this thrilling Master setup from Disney's 1961 stylistic masterpiece One Hundred and One Dalmatians. A celebration of modern animation techniques and style thanks in part to its use of xerography, this feature was in many ways a striking contrast to the Studio's preceding release Sleeping Beauty, which these beloved pups also markedly out-preformed at the box-office despite Walt's personal and persistent distaste for the film's art direction. From the 99 stolen puppies' daring escape, the Master Background can be spotted first near the 50:36 timestamp with Tibs seen attempting to keep the deluge puppies in line about 35 seconds later. Nearly full-figured Tibs stands at approximately 4" tall while the partial-to-full figured pups span the frame ranging in height from about 2" to 3.5" and have all been meticulously trimmed to image and applied to the Master background. The background has been hand-painted in gouache on board and exhibits linework transfer from the overlay cel which was removed by the Studio's Art Props Department during the setup's preparation as a VIP gift. Backgrounds on this film were created by Al Dumpster, Ralph Hulett, Anthony Rizzi, and Bill Layne. The setup has been framed under glass to an overall size of 19.25" x 17.25" with an aperture of 12.25" x 10" and matboard dedication reading "To Sue with Best Wishes Walt Disney" which is attributed to Disney Legend Bob Moore (1920 - 2001). Moore was one of the few Studio employees authorized to sign Walt Disney's name as he became too busy to fulfill every request for his signature. The mat also bears an Original WDP stamp in the lower right and includes the original (though damaged) CoA, both reminiscent of Disney's first foray into animation as fine art with the Courvoisier Galleries approximately two decades earlier. With typical handling and edge wear including very minor edge curling/lifting of the trimmed cels, small areas of paint separation/cracking, and minor spots of adhesive residue with some linework restoration by the Art Props department during the setup's preparation, overall this sensational Master setup with signed matboard is in Very Good condition. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.
