Bambi Mother Deer and Bambi Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1942). "Walking already. Well what do you know!" Young Bambi explores the forest under his mother's guidance in this sweet and verdant original concept/color key painting for Disney's 1942 classic attributed to Disney Legend Tyrus Wong (1910 - 2016). Wong's soft-edge, almost mystical style can be best explained in his own words, "I tried to keep the thing very, very simple and create the atmosphere, the feeling of the forest," and that ethereal quality of his work led to Walt's enthusiastic approval of Wong's promotion from in-betweener to one of Bambi's most influential concept designers and background artists. Color keys like this are effectively miniature paintings used to explore and establish color palette and theme for a particular scene. Exhibiting warm spring-like tones, this concept is similar to the early scenes where Bambi's mother leads the young prince around the forest beginning near the 8:25 timestamp during which he begins to make memorable and lifelong friendships. The artwork has been hand-painted in gouache on illustration board and has been framed under glass to an overall size of 9" x 7.25" with a mat aperture of 5" x 3.5". All frames are sold as-is. With typical handling and edge wear, overall this incredible concept/color key is in Very Good condition.
