Description

Fantasia "The Pastoral Symphony" Faun and Baby Pegasus Original Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1940). "Pastoral Symphony" combined incredible music (Beethoven's Symphony No.6 aka the Pastoral Symphony) with recognizable creatures and characters from Greco-Roman mythology, including playful fauns and pegasi. The stunning original pastel concept art in this lot captures the whimsy and beauty of the segment with a faun cheerfully running with a baby Pegasus, letting it hover in the air like a kite. Concept artists on the segment included James Bodrero, J. Gordon Legg, and Sylvia Moberly-Holland, who helped to envision characters like the centaurettes, fauns, and Bacchus and Jacchus. This concept is one of the many explorations of characters and scenes for "The Pastoral Symphony" that played a vital role in developing the design of the landscapes and characters. Some of them would have been compiled into a Leica reel, similar to modern animatics, to test a scene and how it worked with the soundtrack. From the end of the flowers on the pegasus' tail to the edge of the scenery, the image has an approximate image size of about 10.5'' x 8" and is displayed in a 15'' x 13'' Plexiglas-fronted frame. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. Very Good condition with only light handling wear and toning.
