Description
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Dopey Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1937). We have in this lot a superb hand-painted Courvoisier production cel setup from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, showcasing an adorable and emblematic image of the only dwarf with blue eyes, Dopey, surrounded by soap bubbles! In the late 1930s, the president of Courvoisier Galleries, Guthrie Courvoisier, entered into an exclusive agreement to sell original Disney production cels through fine art galleries, recognizing the artistic value of the Disney art. This momentous partnership contributed to establishing animation as collectible fine art. Showcasing the image of Dopey that appears at the 16:29 mark of the movie, during the famous soap scene, right after accidentally eating the bar of soap, the hand-inked and hand-painted cel shows the character measuring 3.5" x 2", featuring the cel layer of the giant soap bubble, and displayed on the 6" x 7" Courvoisier hand-painted background. The cel has been trimmed to the size of the background and shows light waviness. Presenting overall light handling and edge wear from production, the lot is in Good ot Very Good condition.Auction Info
