Description
The Lion King II: Simba's Pride Key Master Pan Background with Presentation Cel and Production Drawings (Walt Disney, 1998). This is a one-of-a-kind hand-inked, hand-painted presentation cel over a stunning original production background from the 1998 follow-up to Disney's wildly popular feature film The Lion King. Matthew Broderick is back in the role as Simba, with Robert Guillaume reprising his role as Rafiki. James Earl Jones is back as Mufasa, and the comedic duo of Nathan Lana and Ernie Sabella reprise their roles as Timon and Pumbaa. In the film, Simba's daughter is the key to the resolution of a bitter feud between Simba's pride and the outcast pride led by the mate of Scar. This gorgeous production background measures an impressive 26" x 10.5". Backgrounds for the film were hand-painted by Barry Dean, Murray Eaton, Jerry Liew, Owen Rohu, Peter Sgro, and James Zheng, with Donna Prince and June Micu serving as key background stylists and Beverley McNamara supervising background production. This amazing piece of art is beautifully rendered in gouache, with overlays giving the piece depth. Noted as "original production background" in the lower right and bearing a Disney seal in the lower left, the piece is framed to 34" x 19" with a frame opening of 25" x 10". It's a gorgeous frame; however, frames are sold as-is. A Disney COA is included and affixed to the back of the frame. Also included are the original production drawings which were used to create the cel. The drawings were rendered in graphite on 12 field animation paper and come enclosed in an acid-free envelope. Both The Lion King and Simba's Pride were digitally inked and painted without any production cels, making these backgrounds and drawings rare pieces of tangible artwork from the film. Overall, Fine condition with minor handling.Auction Info
