Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). "A forest of thorns shall be his tomb, borne through the skies on a fog of doom! Now go with a curse and serve me well, around Stefan's castle, cast my spell!" Maleficent casts her wicked spell from the top of her dark tower to stop Prince Phillip from reaching Princess Aurora. Created for the moments seen at the 1:07:25 mark of the film, this magnificent original concept/Color Key painting is by the hand of concept artist and Disney Legend Inductee Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000). Featuring a dramatic Dutch angle shot unique to the usual rigid 90-degree angles of most other Sleeping Beauty pieces by the artist, this dynamic painting is reflected in the final film in both color and composition. Rendered expertly in gouache on 12" x 6" illustration board, this painting bears the signature of Eyvind Earle in the lower right corner. The board shows minor handling and edge wear with one pinhole in each corner, and the condition is Very Good.Auction Info
