Description

Cartoonsville "Main Street" Theme Park Attraction Concept Painting by Bruce Bushman (Hanna-Barbera, c. 1968). Over the years there have been many theme parks and park attractions based on Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters: Kings Island's The Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera; Hanna-Barbera Land in Texas; Six Flags Great America had a number of H-B attractions, and there are several small parks dedicated to The Flintstones plus parks in Canada, China, United Kingdom, and Australia. But before all of these, there was to be a huge park called "Cartoonsville," a park designed to rival Disneyland. Here is an original hand-painted brown-line print depicting the park's Main Street, created by legendary park designer Bruce Bushman (1911 - 1972), one of the best layout/concept artists in the business. Mr. Bushman (son of legendary Hollywood silent screen star Francis X. Bushman) began his career as a layout artist for Disney in the late 1930s; by 1954, Bruce was an Imagineer helping to design Disneyland park attractions. He's done similar design work for other parks all over the world, as well as intricate store designs for major McDonald's locations; he also did layouts for many H-B animated projects. This hand-painted brown-line print features places like "Yogi's Picnic Basket," "Hillbilly Bears Shooting Gallery," and a "Bedrock Emporium." This piece was created for visual presentations to investors; it's painted with artist's color markers, and the overall size is approximately 24" x 18.75". The signature in the lower right is part of the brown-line print. Cartoonsville would have been the very first Hanna-Barbera theme park, had it been completed. Condition is Good, with handling wear and wrinkling, and there are rubber cement stains on back.
