Description
Disneyland - The Art Corner 19" x 25" x 3" Park-Displayed Metal and Wood Sign Signed by Jay Gould with Logo Concept Art, Printed Proof Group of 5, and Postcard (Walt Disney, 1965). A wonderous piece of Disneyland history is featured in this remarkable lot! Offered is the iconic artist palette-shaped sign displayed outside the renowned Art Corner. One of Disneyland's most famous shops, the Art Corner, offered production cels from Walt Disney Studios' renowned movies, shows, and shorts, displaying the famous golden stickers from the store. Although mainly remembered as being located in Tomorrowland, for three years the store had its home at Main Street, where this sign was proudly displayed. This 25" x 18.5" x 2" sign is made of wood and metal, with the back showing the engraving "Jay Gould 1965." Gould, sometimes referred to as Disney's 10th Old Man, started his career at Disney's animation department in 1936. He later became involved with live-action, commercials, and TV productions, sometimes credited as a "Special Artist." As a great bonus, the lot comes with a 4.5" x 1.5" concept drawing for the "From the Art Corner Disneyland" logo, created in graphite with notes in red pencil on 10.5" x 6" paper, an 8" x 7.5" printed design for the Mickey Mouse with two printed proofs of its use, two more printed proofs showing copies of drawings, measuring 9.75" x 12.5" and 13.25" x 9.5", as well as a 5.5" x 3.5" postcard. The printed image of Mickey is taped to the board and shows toned areas. The print proofs show light handling and edge wear from production. The sign presents normal weathering and aging from display, with some cracking on the paint areas of the palette. Overall, in Good condition.Auction Info
