Description

Superman (The Mad Scientist) Mad Scientist's Secret Lair Layout Drawing (Max Fleischer, 1941). Lois Lane jumps in a plane and finds the source of the death rays threatening Metropolis, a secluded, futuristic domed building high on a mountain top, in the very first Superman cartoon produced by the Fleischer Studios. Here's a rare background layout drawing of the Mad Scientist's secret lair (complete with the barrel of the "death ray" gun jutting out of the left side), as seen at about the 3:33 mark in online viewings of this classic short, the first to feature a costumed "mystery man" superhero from the comic books. The art is in graphite on 16 field animation paper, with an approximate image size of 13.25" x 9.5". An old rubber cement stain is in the left side border, and there are tack holes, handling/edge wear, and paper toning on this historic piece. One paper tear is in the lower right corner of the image area, and there are fold creases. Fair condition.
