Description

Mary Poppins "Feed the Birds" RARE Sold-Out 35th Anniversary Commemorative Snow Globe (Walt Disney, 1999). Sold-out for over two decades! This gorgeous snow globe depicts the "Feed the Birds" scene at St. Paul's Cathedral in Walt Disney's Academy Award®-winning film, Mary Poppins (1964). Written by the Sherman Brothers, "Feed the Birds" at first blush doesn't seem to entail any meaning. The significance is derived from the image of a destitute elderly woman at the steps of a church, asking for money to feed her birds. The simple image makes for simple metaphors, whether the birds refer to the marginalized or the Banks children. "Feed the Birds" perfectly infuses P.L. Travers' stories with the Disney film's cheery disposition. There's a reason it would go on to be Walt Disney's favorite song and be a reoccurring musical theme throughout Mary Poppins, playing four times over the course of the film, "Feed the Birds" works on every level. This striking snow globe winds up on the bottom to play the song. When shaken the birds take flight around St. Paul's. It stands about 7.5" tall and comes in the original box. Never displayed, the globe is in Very Fine condition.
