Sleeping Beauty and the Good Fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather with Princess Aurora Little Golden Book Double-Page Illustration by Julius Svendsen Original Art plus #D71 Published Book (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1958). The Good Fairies have been invited to decorate the castle for Princess Aurora's homecoming feast but they can't find their magic wands in this double-page children's storybook illustration. Sleeping Beauty was released on 1/29/1959 but had been in the works since 1950. It was the studio's most expensive film to date but didn't do well at the box office on its initial release, but in time it came to be one of Disney's most successful and beloved animation features. This magnificent illustration from pages 16 and 17 features all three Good Fairies - Flora (in red), Merryweather (blue) and Fauna (green), plus of course the Sleeping Beauty herself, Princess Aurora; the art is from the hand of the studio's best storyboard artist, Julius Svendsen (1919 - 1971). The painted image is in gouache on a piece of 15.5" x 12.75" illustration board with an approximate image size of 13" x 8.5". The image is complete with the original text blocks on each page. A first printing ("A" copy) of the book is included. The art is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.Auction Info
