Description

"The Art of Chuck Jones" Michigan J. Frog Oil Painting (Warner Brothers, 1996). "Ribbit." One Froggy Evening is considered by many as one of Chuck Jones' greatest cartoons. It is ranked as #5 in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons and Time Magazine declared it as "close as any cartoon has ever come to perfection. The star of this one-off Warner Brothers short from 1955 is a lumpen, limp-limbed frog (later named Michigan J.) who transforms into a brilliant entertainer the minute no one else is watching. The little character was so popular it became the face of Warner Brothers WB Network in the 1990s. Offered in this lot is an absolute treasure - an original oil painting of Michigan J. Frog painted in oils by his creator, Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002). This exceptional masterpiece is inspired by the scene at the 2:33 mark in the film where the frog first displays his refusal to perform for anyone other than his handler. Chuck Jones oil paintings rarely come of for sale and this is the first we have ever seen featuring this beloved character. It is a true White Whale for Jones and Warner Brothers collectors and the opportunity to own it will likely not arise again for some time. It is signed by the artist in the lower right and comes with a Linda Jones Certificate of Authenticity. The art is in a 27" x 31" frame. Condition is Very Good and frame is sold as-is.
