Description
Neon Genesis Evangelion Misato Katsuragi Opening Title Sequence Production Cel and Animation Drawing Group of 2 (Gainax, 1995). Offered in this lot is a two-layer hand-painted production cel, accompanied by its matching animation drawings, from one of the most famous anime opening title sequences: "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" from Neon Genesis Evangelion. These images of Misato can be seen at the beginning of each episode, emerging at approximately the 0:41 timestamp, as we hear the lyrics " Motomeru koto ni muchuu de," written by Neko Oikama and beautifully performed by Yoko Takahashi. The bottom layer of the 12-field cel shows Misato's lowered face, with the top layer showing her figure standing up, together measuring an image size of 8.5" x 6.75", displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes. Music can almost be heard coming out of these famous images! The matching animation drawings numbered A9 and B46 in the top right corner show Misato's head and body respectively rendered in graphite and colored pencils. Additionally, these drawings feature the number circled, indicating that these are key drawings. The cel layers show light fading on the linework. Misato's head animation drawing presents paint residue from the production cel, and both show faint age-related toning on the top edge.
