My Neighbor Totoro Satsuki and Mei Production Cel Setup with Presentation Background (Studio Ghibli, 1988). "Are you Totoro?" While waiting for a bus in the rain, Satsuki is surprised to encounter the eponymous forest spirit Totoro in this wonderful original production cel setup from Hayao Miyazaki's landmark masterpiece My Neighbor Totoro. This image captures the moment when Totoro lets out a gleeful roar, pleased with the umbrella Satsuki lent him. Seen at the 53:03 mark of the film, this setup features a highly coveted, frame-filling image of Satsuki and Mei from one of the celebrated film's most iconic scenes. This scene is famously represented on the original theatrical poster, which depicted the two sisters as one character. Hayao Miyazaki made the change to two characters late in the development phase of production. This adorable image is composed of three cels displayed on a presentation background, hand-painted in gouache on board. Measuring an overall 13.75" x 9.25", the piece shows minor studio handling and edge wear with light surface scuffing, and the condition is Very Good.
