Description

Hamilton Luske Awards Group of 9 (Walt Disney, c. 1950s-60s). A business major with no formal art education, Hamilton Luske (1903 - 1968) was the first animator cast by Walt Disney on his daring new project Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In a memo dated from late 1935, Walt wrote, "From now on Ham Luske is definitely assigned to Snow White." As the film's supervising animator, Ham was responsible for the most difficult character of all-Snow White. After the success of Snow White, Ham's career turned toward directing and, during World War II, he directed government training films. He would later direct educational films, such as Donald in Mathmagic Land. He also served as supervising co-director on Pinocchio and sequence director on Fantasia, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and the cartoon sequences featured in Mary Poppins. Ham later moved into television, serving as associate producer and director on the series Disneyland, Walt Disney Presents, and Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. During his tenure, Ham won numerous awards including and Oscar for Mary Poppins. In 1999 Ham was posthumously inducted into Disney's hall of fame program as an official Disney Legend. Offered in this lot are four Box Office Blue Ribbon Awards for: Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians, and Cinderella. Also included in this lot are two Awards of Achievement from the Motion Picture Herald for the years 1952-53 and 1954-55. As a bonus this lot also, includes the programs given out to attendees at the Screen Director's Guild of America Annual Awards Dinner (1956), 30th Annual Academy Awards (1958) and 37th Annual Academy Awards (1965). A superb collection of personal items from an important figure in Disney folklore. The items exhibit some normal wear and tear but appear to have been in storage all these years. Condition is Very Good.
