This collection comprises a set of 20 CAPS test prints and a beautifully framed photograph, " CAPS Pioneers," presented to Peter Schneider, the esteemed president of Disney's Feature Animation, following the groundbreaking production of The Rescuers Down Under. These 20 test prints are original reference prints from the production of The Rescuers Down Under, a significant milestone in Disney's animation history. This film marked Disney's first foray into computer animation, a technological leap that would transform the future of the art form. The new CAPS department at Walt Disney Studios created these test prints to ensure seamless color correction and matching between computer-generated animation and traditional hand-drawn animation. The prints, measuring approximately 16.75" x 24," with an image size of 11" x 19," are high-quality Iris Prints on heavyweight paper. They serve as a testament to the meticulous attention to detail and quality control that defined Disney's animation process during this pivotal era. These test prints capture the transition from the old world of hand-painted cels to the new frontier of computer-generated imagery. Along with the prints we have a remarkable piece, measuring 16" x 18," is an embodiment of innovation and tribute. It captures the individuals who forged new pathways in animation by embracing the Computer Animation Production System (CAPS). As the president of Feature Animation, Peter Schneider was instrumental in overseeing the transformation of animation techniques. This framed photo was a token of appreciation for his visionary leadership. A letter from the film's producer, Tom Schumacher, accompanies the photo. In his letter, Schumacher expresses gratitude to the "intrepid souls who braved the wilderness of new technologies." It is a heartfelt acknowledgment of the pioneers who blazed a trail into the digital frontier.
