Description

Gulliver's Travels Gulliver's Thunder Machine Production Background with Gun and Sign Cel Setup (Fleischer Studios, 1939). The king of Lilliput throws a grand party for Gulliver, but some of the guests are more interested in Gulliver's "Thunder Machine" than the festivities. This lot features a stunning 16 field 3-peghole gouache production background of the tent covering Gulliver's gun and a 16 field 3-peghole 2-cel setup. The setup includes the hand-painted writing on the display on the top layer and the meticulously trimmed to outline gun, sign, and shadow on the second layer, also rendered in gouache. The beautiful backgrounds on the film were created by Robert Little, Louis Jambor, Shane Miller, and Erich Schenk. This dramatic setup can be found at about 53:08 as King Blefescu's three spies in Lilliput steal Gulliver's gun so they can "get rid of him" under the king's orders. The detailed background is marked for Scene 8-71 and includes the production code F8-1, two sign offs by Robert Little, and three dates in varying parts of the production process. The background and setup are attached to a 20.5'' x 17'' board. Good to Very Good condition with minor edge and handling wear, light age-related toning, and loose areas of the trimmed gun.
