Description

Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad Desert Production Background (Fleischer Studios, 1936). "Who's the most remarkable, extraordinary fellow?" "You!" Popeye makes his greatest rescue yet, saving Olive Oyl from that scoundrel Sinbad (Bluto) in this outstanding hand painted production background from the two-reel cartoon Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad. The short was the first color Popeye cartoon and has even been added to the Library of Congress! This exceptional 16 field 3-peghole from the Dave Fleischer-directed short is rendered in eye-catching detail with gouache, capturing the desert as it appears at about the 10:29 timestamp when Sinbad's minions tell him he's the greatest. The huge background measures about 16'' x 12.5'' on professionally restored backing board and is full of beautiful details, whether you're looking at the snarling tree, the picturesque clouds, or the castle wall in the distance. Very Good condition overall with minor edge and handling wear and age-related toning.
