Description

Harvey Artist Blondie Comics Monthly #34 Complete 7-Page Story "Mystery of the Missing Mother" Original Art (Harvey Comics, 1951). A vivid reminder, here, of how much crazier and more interesting Dagwood Bumstead's life was when he had to catch a bus to get to work. (In the present day, Dagwood has a sedate car-pool arrangement.) Chic Young's historic feature, Blondie, had employed unbilled assistants since the 1930s. The need to out-source the art became urgent after Young's vision had failed around 1950. The present story's unsigned ghost displays a delightful Art Deco-like variation. (The angular figures resemble nothing ever drawn by Blondie funnybook stalwart Paul Fung, Jr.) Here, a misunderstanding leaves Dagwood fearing that Blondie has quit him. Image area, 9" x 13.5". Light to moderate toning. Very Good to Excellent condition.
