Barbara Shermund Gag Cartoon Original Art (c. 1950s). The edgy, spontaneous style of Shermund shows vividly in this study in absurdity. Reads the caption: "Mother has made such a mess of her life." Shermund's cartoons had graced The New Yorker since the 1920s. This one may have been done for Esquire or a similar magazine. Ink, drybrush, and watercolor over graphite on textured watercolor paper. Image area, 8.5" x 11", protected by transparent plastic layer and matted to 14.74" x 18.5". Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
