Description

Gene Fawcette Supermouse, the Big Cheese, Summer Holiday Issue #1 Cover Original Art and Production Page (Pines Comics, 1957). Supermouse may have beaten Terrytoons' Mighty Mouse to the punch, in terms of arrival on the scene. Both characters date from the early 1940s, in response to the success of the Superman comics. Both mouse-heroes enjoyed long parallel runs, although Supermouse confined his antics to the funnybooks while Mighty Mouse starred in both comics and animated cartoons. This bold cover for a special issue benefits from a deep-perspective airborne composition. Accompanying the selection is a photostatic reproduction, designed for a house advertisement in another Pines Comics title. Ink over graphite (with typeset logo) on heavyweight illustration board. Image area, 10.5" x 16.5". Moderate toning and barked corners. Excellent condition.
