Description

Gus Ricca Slam-Bang Comics #4 Story Page 9 Original Art (Fawcett Publ., 1940). One of the comics' earliest heroes is Diamond Jack, a snazzy dresser (no form-fitting costume) who wields a magical ring. Ricca's stylish and dynamic composition, from the origin story, finds Diamond Jack putting the kibosh on an assassin with a lightning-bolt from that formidable piece of jewelry. One might call Jack a cross between Mandrake the Magician (dating from 1934) and Green Lantern (whose début also came in 1940). One corner contains the stamp of the historic Harry "A" Chesler studio. A splendid relic of funnybook history, here. Ink over graphite on illustration board. Image area, 11.25" x 15.5". Moderate toning and marginal editorial notes. Excellent condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
