Don Martin Captain Klutz II Preliminary Original Cover (Warner Books, 1989). This spontaneous conceptual rough is a far cry from the published cover -- another scene, entirely. Martin's MAD Magazine-spinoff parody of Superman is shown proportionately larger than he appears on the final version, and his activity is conspicuously different. Tough luck than this image never made it past the conceptual stage, but it is its own reward, and a rare look at the behind-the-scenes creative processes of an influential cartoonist. Crayons on manila page-stock. Image area, 8.5" x 11". Faint (intrinsic) toning. Excellent condition.Auction Info
