Description
V.T. Hamlin and Dave Graue Alley Oop Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-4-70 (Newspaper Enterprise Association, 1970). Hamlin had altered the course of comics in 1939 by transforming his prehistoric-adventure strip, Alley Oop, into a time-travel series, bridging all the ages of history up to modern times. By 1970, Hamlin was bracing for retirement while turning Oop over gradually to his longtime assistant, Graue. Their styles mesh seamlessly, even though Hamlin and Graue had become estranged over a contractual disagreement and now would work together only by mail. This splendid installment features regular characters Oop, King Guzzle, and Doc Wonmug, and a goofy-looking apeman called the Gink. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 20" x 6". Excellent condition.Auction Info
