Description
Cliff Sterrett Studio Polly and Her Pals Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-20-41 (King Features Syndicate, 1941). A whopping-big example of the classic gag feature. Sterrett had delegated the dailies increasingly since the 1930s to assistants Paul Fung and Vernon Greene, who stuck with the master's Deco-style gaudy decorative touches. (Polly and Her Pals remained pure-Sterrett in the Sunday episodes.) The "Say what?" style of double-talk humor persisted in the dailies, as well, reflecting Sterrett's overriding wit. Here is a later-period Polly, enlivened by the title character's skewed logic. The absence of a signature indicates the work of an assistant. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 25" x 5". Light age-toning, with stained areas (Polly's dress) caused by peeled Zipatone shading film. Very Good condition.Auction Info
