The Fantastic Four, Thor, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the Hulk were already challenging DC's hold on Silver Age superhero titles, when Stan Lee came up with one of his more novel ideas, the X-Men (the Angel, the Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, and Marvel Girl).
