Description

George Herriman Archy Does His Part Interior Illustration Original Art (Doubleday Publ., 1935). Caption: "Just as I got my shoe off, we passed a glue factory." Herriman's brilliance ranges far beyond his most famous feature, the surreal and poetic Krazy Kat. This gem issues from the third book of Don Marquis' New York newspaper columns about a philosophical cockroach -- the text comes from a roach-poem called "suicide club, part 1." The classic Herriman style is irresistible in its detailed density of composition. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with marginal spot-staining. Image area, 6" x 9". Very Good condition.
