Description

Bil Keane The Family Circus Daily Comic Strip Original Art (Register & Tribune Syndicate, 1965). Five years into The Family Circus, Keane is still experimenting with illustrative technique -- such as this panel's use of CrafTint chemical-shading board to emphasize the textures of the lawn, walls, and curtains. Keane's richly observed pageant of household humor sometimes is miscalled The Family Circle because of the shape of its panels. "It's not a circle," Keane would explain. "It's a ring -- like a circus ring. Hence the name The Family Circus." The feature's gentle ironies and absurdities are well represented in this bright example. Ink over blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 8.25" x 9". Light toning. Excellent condition.
