Description

Fantasia Mushroom Dancers Multiplane 3-D Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1940). Presented in this lot is an extraordinarily rare Courvoisier multiplane setup of the Mushroom Dancers from the "Nutcracker Suite" section of Disney's classic feature film Fantasia. The multiplane camera, which created the illusion of depth in animated films, was developed by the legendary Ub Iwerks. Disney studio first tested it in the 1937 Academy Award-winning short, The Old Mill. Courvoisier Galleries created these delicate Multiplane art pieces to mimic the 3D appearance achieved by this camera. These unique setups are hand-painted on thin plates of glass to create a sense of depth and due to their inherent fragility, very few still exist today. Most that were sold featured characters from Bambi and the Silly Symphony Wynken, Blynken, and Nod making this Fantasia piece particularly unique and highly sought after by collectors. The art is in its original 8.5" x 8" glass-front frame with Courvoisier label on back which indicates that this piece is #15 in the series. Condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.
