Description

Walt Disney's Treasury: 21 Best-Loved Stories Ben and Me Pages 128 and 130 Illustrations by Campbell Grant Original Art Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1953). The 1953 Hamilton Luske-directed two-reel short Ben and Me was adapted from a children's book on the life of Benjamin Franklin. Nominated for an Academy Award, the film focused on a mouse named Amos who helped Franklin's career as a publisher, inventor, and politician. Five pages in the Treasury book were devoted to this story, with illustrations from Disney artist Campbell Grant (1909 - 1992). Mr. Grant worked on Disney classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Fantasia during his 12 years as an animator and story director. There were only three full-color illustrations for this story, and we have all three pieces of original artwork in this superb lot. The illustration for page 128 (of Ben Franklin's famous experiment with electricity, using a kite) has an image area measuring approximately 8" x 7.5". The two illustrations for page 130 measure 4" x 2.75" (Amos writing his agreement with Franklin) and 8" x 5" (Ben reading parts of the agreement to Thomas Jefferson). Color prints of the book's front cover and table of contents pages are included for reference. The art is in gouache on lightweight board, with old glue residue on the backside. Overall condition is Very Good, with minor handling and edge wear.
