Description

George McManus Bringing Up Father with Rosie's Beau Topper Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-2-41 (King Features Syndicate, 1941). McManus' culture-clash comedy still resonates -- mainly due to the conflict between Mr. Jiggs' lowbrow tastes and the fine-art pretensions of his social-climbing wife, Maggie. This time out, Jiggs and a pal seem destined for a night of highbrow torture at the Opera House, until Jiggs comes up with a scheme to sneak out to a burlesque show. The topper strip is McManus' similarly concerned Rosie's Beau, a courtship satire. Ink over graphite on conjoined sheets of Bristol board. Image area, 16" x 21.5". There is some toning, with glue residue where the pages are connected. Very Good condition.
From the Bobby G. Murphy Collection.
