Al Feldstein Weird Science Cover Title/Logo Illustration Original Art (EC, 1950). This header originally appeared on Weird Science #12 (#1), the first issue of the series, and an edited version featuring similar lettering appeared on the following two issues. The title itself marked an evolution in genre fiction, bringing the "weird fiction" primarily associated with Gothic horror, classical monsters, and the supernatural into the far-flung reaches of outer space! The famous title has taken on a life of its own in the decades since, most famously as the 1985 John Hughes movie (bearing a similar logo), the television series following it, and Oingo Boingo's bubbly hit song of the same name. Weird Science became synonymous with the pop art stylings of both 1950s and 1980s science fiction, thanks to the series incredible creators including Al Feldstein, Wally Wood, Frank Frazetta, Al Williamson, Ray Bradbury, and more. This banner graced the first issue of a pop culture institution, with Weird Science far outliving its comic book origins and remaining a household name to this day, almost 75 years later. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13.5" x 7". Production notes, tape pulls to margins, adhesive staining, whiteout, toning, and handling wear.
