Description

Joe Kubert All-American Men of War #20 Story Page 4 Original Art (DC, 1955). A battlefront photographer finds himself on the firing line and ready to fire back, with two likely targets -- but only one grenade. The splendidly composed heavy-action page finds Kubert's command of the genre already in full flower, capturing both the requisite violence and its toll upon the human spirit. The page is essentially authentic, although a major condition issue must be noted: a crude and amateurish re-drawing of the protagonist (Panel 1), grafted into place with awkward retouching and a failed grasp of anatomy and dimensional line-weight. Ink over graphite on light/moderate-toned Bristol board. Dimensions, 13" x 20", including Kubert's modern-day inscription at lower margin. Adhesive seams appear in Panels 2-3. The damage to panel 1 mentioned above prevents us from describing it as better than Good condition.
