Description
A Charlie Brown Christmas Production Cels and Key Master Pan Production Background Setup (Bill Melendez, 1965). Good grief! This is from one of the most iconic (and almost "required viewing") Christmas cartoons ever! An incredible setup, it features Charlie Brown with his Christmas Tree ("It's not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love."), and the rest of the cast from the Christmas play that he is directing... Snoopy, his sister Sally Brown, Lucy and Linus Van Pelt (with his blanket), Pig Pen, Violet, Frieda (with her naturally curly hair), and others. This multi-cel setup features hand-painted production cels on a hand-painted Key Master pan background with a hand-painted production overlay of the Director's chair and curtain. This is from right after Linus reminds everyone of the true meaning of Christmas by reciting Luke Chapter 2, Verses 8-14. Right after that, Charlie Brown picks up his tree and heads outside with everyone following. This leads to the dramatic finale. Coca-Cola sponsored the landmark Emmy Award and a Peabody Award winning TV special that first aired on 12-9-65, and it has been shown every year since. Vince Guaraldi's jazz soundtrack for the special has become part of the sounds of Christmas. This short also made history by using actual child actors for the voices of all the characters. It is quite simply one of the most influential TV cartoon specials in all of history. The cels and background are matted with an image area of 33.5" x 8.75" with the characters standing approximately 2" to 2.5" tall. It is Plexiglas front framed to 42" x 16.5". One cel has a tear in the top portion, but not near any of the characters, otherwise in Fine condition.Auction Info
