Description

George McManus Bringing Up Father - Washington and Lee University 200th Anniversary Publication Illustration Original Art (Washington and Lee, 1949). His comic strip was well-known and beloved for McManus' goofy caricatures and gags, however as evidenced by this beautiful piece featuring Nora front and center, he could draw a perfectly gorgeous woman when he chose to. Nora was the daughter of strip stars Maggie and Jiggs, and McManus based her look on his lovely wife Florence Bergere. This piece was created specifically for a publication celebrating the 200th anniversary of Washington and Lee University in Virginia. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 11.5" x 15". A notation on the back of the board indicates it was likely for Page 31 of the publication. Signed in the image area. In Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
