Description

Bernie Krigstein and Reed Crandall - Original Art for Crime Illustrated #1 (EC, 1955). The impact that Krigstein could have had on the comic industry was never fully realized. He felt that the words to the story were secondary to the art that could more effectively convey the information to the viewer. This piece, from the story "Fall Guy for Murder," speaks volumes, even in its static simplicity and the absence of the text stat. The main character is obviously a man of social standing and leisure who's life is about to be changed by the appearance of his visitor. Reed Crandall is an excellent artist in his own right, but his inks have helped to make several great artists even better. Both Krigstein and Crandall extensively used zip-a-tone applications in their comic art and this example is fairly covered with them. This page is in excellent shape with moderate use of white out. There is a 1" tear at the top edge of this piece that measures approximately 18.25" x 24.75".
