Description

Richard F. Outcault Buster Brown Partial Sunday Comic Strip Original Art (American-Journal Examiner, c. 1910s). Buster Brown goes to visit some relatives as chaos ensues on this top half of a Sunday strip. Even just half of the Sunday shows the kind of trouble you would expect from this scamp and his talking dog, Tige. Created in ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 18.75" x 10". As was the production method of the time, characters and locations were hand-watercolored by the artist the first time they appeared in the strip as a reference to the printer. There was no need to color them in subsequent appearances. There are pinholes in the margins, and a small rip in the left side margin of the toned board. There is also a crease through the image area. In Very Good condition. From the Outcault Family Collection.
