Description

Bill Willingham and Bill Anderson Justice Machine Annual #1 Inside Back Cover Elementals Original Art (Texas Comics, 1983). This is a big piece for a couple of reasons! If you saw this image in the back of Justice Machine Annual #1, then you likely just finished reading the first appearance of the Elements by Bill Willingham. Monolith! Vortex! Fathom! Morningstar! They were one of the most fondly remembered and well regarded creations of the 1980s super-hero boom! This art was dressed up, on the inside back cover, to be the first issue cover of Texas Comics' Elementals book. As it turns out, this Justice Machine Annual was the only book that Texas Comics ever published. The art was also used in promotional pieces, and of course Elementals #1 was eventually published by Comico instead, with a different cover. The huge, oversize art here is ink over graphite on 20" x 30" illustration board with an image area of 16.5" x 25.5". You can even see the faint graphite rough lines for the Texas Comics trade dressing. Signed by Willingham and Anderson in the lower portion. There is corner wear, and there are a few minor surface stains, along with pinholes in the marginal corners. In Very Good condition.
