Description
Frank Miller A Benefit Portfolio In Defense of the First Amendment - Unpublished Ronin #4 Cover Original Art (DC/CBLDF, 1987). Comic lore has it that only artwork from issue #1 of Frank Miller's ground-breaking 1983 Ronin has ever left his possession. This unpublished cover originally designed for issue #4 may be as close as you can get to anything from that issue. What makes this twice as cool, is that it was used as one of the plates in the 1987 portfolio that benefited the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13.5" x 12.5", this hyper-detailed cover is a striking piece of comic history. The board is lightly tanned, with some minor handling and production registration tape in the margins, otherwise, in Excellent condition.More Information:
In 1986, comic shop clerk Michael Correa was arrested and charged with selling obscene material. Publisher Dennis Kitchen spearheaded a unique project to raise money to help with Correa's legal expenses. This benefit portfolio led to the formation of the non-profit organization The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. This is a historic piece of original art that helped to change the comic industry by providing comic creators, publishers, and retailers facing prosecution with a resource for financial assistance.
