Description
Wally Wood and Al Sirois House of Mystery #251 Complete 8-Page Story "The Collector" Original Art (DC, 1977). His sense of humor prevailed, even as failing health during the 1970s left comics master Wood frail and often embittered against the commercial publishing industry. If he enjoyed a new assignment, Wood would summon his reserves of artistic energy against formidable odds. The classic Wood wit shines throughout this late-in-life, MAD-style job for big-gun DC Comics: Not only did Wood flesh out the original loose-pencil breakdowns by Sirois (an assistant in Wood's studio), but Wood also delivered a brushed-ink job as polished as anything he had done during his heyday of the 1950s-1960s. Finer details among these high-energy pages include a cameo appearance (Page 8) by the Underground Comix character known as Wonder Wart-Hog, a creation of Wood's counterculture admirer, Gilbert Shelton. The joke-byline, Coram Nobis, belongs to scriptwriter David Vern; the Latin coram nobis is an archaic judicial term. Ink and shading film over blue pencil and graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 10" x 15".
